When it comes to customized gaming masterpieces, the creations of expert modder Ben Heck pop up across the Web more than any other professional craftsman. His works of art are typically based around one-of-a-kind mods that are rarely placed up for sale, yet still get the gaming community chomping at the bit in excitement. This month he cranks out his fastest console-based project to date, delivering a PS3 Slim laptop in just 35 days.

Wolfenstein Review From IGN

There's something comfortingly retro about Wolfenstein, the new first-person shooter from Activision, id Software, and Raven Software. The original Wolfenstein 3D shipped more than 17 years ago and as you probably already know it popularized the first-person shooter. Before Half-Life made scripted shooters all the rage, Wolfenstein 3D relished in the pure simplicity of roaming around big levels and blasting Nazis with an ever-escalating arsenal of weaponry. Call it the Inglorious Basterds of its day. This new Wolfenstein definitely borrows...

NEED FOR SPEED SHIFT Review By Gamepro

Obviously, simulation racing isn't the most organic evolution for the series. Sure, ProStreet had a dose of realism injected into it, but it wavered indecisively between circuit sim and arcade racer. So it's appropriate that the latest NFS title is called SHIFT because it's obviously trying to "shift" the franchise in a new direction.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review By Gamepro

I reviewed the first Uncharted back when it was first released and thought it was a good game with some promise; I wasn't blown away by it, but I thought it was a good first step. Well, Naughty Dog's taken that first step and followed it up with a giant leap: Uncharted 2 is a great game, a big budget Hollywood blockbuster masquerading as a video game. Seriously, if this keeps up, the Matthew McConaugheys and Nicolas Cages of the world will all be out of a job... which wouldn't exactly be a huge blow to humanity's future.

According to GameSpot AU, Valve's upcoming zombie-styled shooter sequel Left 4 Dead 2 will not be able to be legally sold in Australia. The Australian Classification Board has refused to allow the game to be given an MA 15+ rating (which is the current maximum) based on the graphic violence depicted in-game, particularly that caused by the newly touted range of melee weapons.

The refusal largely focuses on the Board's interpretation of the game's violence finding that "The game contains realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence which is inflicted upon "the Infected"...

According to both Kotaku and VG247 there's been a little leak of information from the Swedish arm of retailer GameStop. A dodgy photo shows a snap of the company's internal database system, which apparently confirms four brand-new 250GB PlayStation 3 bundles for the European market.

A screen taken of a Swedish GameStop database shows that the European 250Gb PS3 Slim bundles are more than likely the real deal, and people should be pleased as punch with the offerings, which are supposedly all due next month.

The four bundles listed, as you can see, are Uncharted 2, FIFA...

Just a bit of information I found on MAG:

Corran Horn from neogaf.com tells us some of the features of Zipper’s MAG. Some highlights:

- 20 years in future, 3 major PMCs bid for war.

- 3 Factions, only 2 announced now: Raven and Sver

- 256 Domination mode. Attackers and defenders. Out layer of defense and inner layer. If your faction wins alot it...

Today is a big day in PlayStation land. The slimmer PlayStation 3 is official, the system only costs $299.99 as of tomorrow, there are bite-sized games coming to the PSP, and digital comics are a reality.

What a time to be alive.

With the dust still settling around all of these announcements, SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller sat down for a quick chat with IGN about all things PlayStation. Now, you can listen to the entire segment Thursday on Podcast Beyond, the premier PlayStation podcast on IGN, but to hold you over, I broke out a few of the more enthralling...

Salem and Rios will be bringing in the New Year for the games industry.

Electronic Arts has revealed Army of Two: The 40th Day will get a North American release on January 12, 2010. The game will be released four days earlier in Europe on January 8.

The company also revealed the game's pre-order bonus, which gives players early access to the multiplayer mode 'Extraction.' The mode will be unlocked for everyone one month later. EA says 'Extraction' "pits a team of four players against a series of unique enemy waves as they move from point to point in the ruined city."

Back at E3 2008, Sony came out and announced MAG -- a massive online action game that would be open to 256 players. Since then we've gotten plenty of details in terms of how the first-person shooter handles, how the command structure breaks down, and more, but we haven't heard about when we can enlist with Raven, Valor, or S.V.E.R.

At least, not until today. MAG is officially storming U.S. PlayStation 3s on Jan. 26, 2010.

PlayStation Home: the only real place to mindlessly dance and get harassed by 14 year-olds all at once.

There's actually a lot more interesting stuff to do in home than the above -- especially after checking out the official PlayStation Blog today. PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star (not his real name, we imagine) made a post about several new PlayStation Home additions that will be coming to Sony's free PS3 social networking service.

The first -- and perhaps most exciting -- addition is a Batman personal apartment space. An atmospheric layer with its...

Kotaku is reporting that an image of a Meijer retail catalog has revealed an upcoming price cut for the Xbox 360 Elite model video game system. The console, which currently retails at $399, will reportedly drop by 25% ($100), to a svelte $299 price tag on or around August 30.

Additionally, Kotaku is saying that this price drop corroborates with info provided earlier in the summer from Ars Technica that claims that Microsoft will also discontinue the Pro model Xbox 360, and that Sony will also drop the PlayStation 3's price this fall. We will keep you updated if either of those two events...

In the ongoing debate between European and American PlayStation gamers about which region gets certain features and when, it appears the Americans are doing some catch-up this week in regards to online Trophy support. Sony announced today that U.S. gamers will see a significant enhancement to the way they view their Trophies online.

Some of the biggest additions include the ability to compare your trophies with multiple friends and other PSN ID’s, track your progress to the next level against friends, a new sorting feature, more detailed Trophy information on PlayStation.com, and the...

“We will be making an official announcement regarding our forthcoming Video Store, next week, at GamesCom,” said Madronero. You can expect the announcement to come during Sony’s press conference on Tuesday, August 18.

The U.S. video-on-demand service went live last year, and former SCEE boss David Reeves has said the service won’t come to Europe until 2009.

If you're looking to drop a few extra presidential flash cards in order to ensure that your DJ Hero experience is as fulfilling as possible, GameStop's got you covered -- the retailer recently priced the rhythm title's limited "Renegade Edition" at $199.99. That's a bit of a markup from the standard version's $119.99 price tag, but big enough fans of Jay-Z, Eminem, high quality turntable peripherals and collapsible stands for said controllers may be willing to part with the extra bones.

Activision's quarterly financial call yesterday was chock full of news, particularly for the Call of Duty franchise.

President and CEO of Activision Publishing Mike Griffith gave investors a full look at the company's upcoming plans for Modern Warfare 2, including what type of online content is in development.

"We plan to launch two separate map packs for this title," Griffith said. "Map packs help extend the shelf life of the franchise, as evidence by the strong catalog sales and premium pricing that we maintained a year and a half after launch."

Yes, there are new things in Guitar Hero 5! Producer Brian Bright told 1UP about the new "Rockfest" multiplayer, which he described as "a suite of new multiplayer game types in Guitar Hero 5 that can be played individually or in teams." These different games can be strung together in a "playlist" so that each round of multiplayer involves a different goal. That's kind of clever!

The "Rockfest" games include:

Soccer fans (that’s football in the rest of the world) should mark their calendars for October 2 when EA releases FIFA 10. Today, we got our first look at the box art for the game’s release in English-speaking PAL territories.

Other regions in Europe will have different players on the cover, but English speaking regions will get Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott from Arsenal, and Frank Lampard, FC midfielder from Chelsea. FIFA 10 is the fifth year that Rooney...

Mega publisher Electronic Arts has revealed that Sony’s PlayStation 3 generated significantly more revenue for the industry giant than the Xbox 360 during the fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2009.

PS3 turned in an impressive $121 USD million for the company, while Xbox 360 only managed to scrape $73 USD million during the same period. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo Wii outstripped both with a whopping $161 USD million, with PC only just nabbing second place away from Sony with $124 USD million.

Despite leading the pack in regards to the home console market, Nintendo didn’t quite manage...

More rumors surface surrounding the PS3 Slim. This round, Sony places an order for an abundant amount of PS3 parts, and Japanese 7-Eleven's receive a notice to stop pre-orders of the 80GB PS3.

This week, Kotaku uncovered a document from a 7-Eleven in Japan, which reportedly was issued from Sony, asking stores to stop taking pre-orders for 80GB PS3s starting August 9. Square Enix’s forthcoming new MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, will not feature experience points or a leveling system, according to a video interview published by Famitsu. Instead of a traditional MMO or RPG leveling process, players will progress more naturally based on their experiences in game, with an emphasis on character growth, explained FFXIV’s director Nobuaki Komoto.

While we can expect a lot of changes to Square’s previous MMO Final Fantasy XI, the new game will hold onto its predecessor’s job system. Jobs in FFXI allow players to create various character classes. The focus in FFXIV...

There's good news and slightly-less-good news for the many fans of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's multiplayer. The good news comes from Infinity Ward community manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling via his twitter feed: the developer is onto the recently discovered multiplayer exploits that unscrupulous players are using to cheat their way to victory. The slightly-less-good news is that the fix is "in the works," meaning there's no definite ETA for it.

Still, we'd have to imagine Infinity Ward has been hard at work on the patch -- we just hope it comes up with something...

Activision has announced that Modern Warfare will be traversing a much smaller battlefield this holiday with the introduction of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized for the DS. Mass Effect 2 may not be ready to save the galaxy until next year, but its cover art is all set to sell some pre-orders. The box features what may be Wrex (but, all Krogans look alike. With the grand scope of the battles featured in Zipper Interactive's MAG, you'd think it'd require a hefty, server-straining beta test. With the white DualShock 3 already available, it's time to show true American patriotism with the purchase (consumerism!) of the red and blue DualShock 3s being released this October. The same show of pride also applies to the French, British, and Russians. Just want two controllers? Well, that's fine if you're Canadian or Argentinian. Either way, our point is the same: controllers are all about displaying national pride, people.
